Our
Mission
Every life is worth saving
From Small Beginnings…
Hi, I’m Shawna Kluge. I started doing small-scale animal rescue through Facebook lost-and-found pet pages soon after moving to Grant County in 2017. When the pandemic hit I realized there were many pet owners in our community struggling to get by. So when I received my pandemic stimulus check I decided to buy 100 pounds of dog and cat food to distribute to those pet owners in need. Thus, The Rock Bottom Rocker Pet Pantry was born.
…to a Great Big Mission
In the early days it was just me, distributing pet food and some supplies to those in dire need. We continue this portion of our mission to this day.
I soon found myself receiving many calls about stray, abandoned, and injured animals. Thanks to some small donations I was able to rescue and care for a few animals at a time. But the need continued to outpace my capacity. So with the help of several community members, we were able to secure a larger area in rural Soap Lake and began housing and caring for dozens of animals.
In October 2022 we officially became a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Today we continue to care for dozens of animals at our facility – mostly dogs and cats, but also a few farm animals and some birds. We are also responsible for a number of animals in the care of our foster network.
Our Core Values
Compassion – We believe every life is worth saving and have deep empathy and concern for animals in need, particularly those that are stray, abandoned, or injured
Education – We promote responsible pet ownership and raise public awareness about the needs of animals in Grant County
Engagement – We aim to build strong community relationships to enhance our capacity for care and rescue operations
Stewardship – We strive to responsibly manage our resources to maximize our impact on animal welfare – we are 100% volunteer and 100% funded by donations and grants
Dedication – We maintain a steadfast commitment to animal rescue and care, regardless of the challenges we face (and we face many challenges!)
